Mechatronics Technician (m/f/d)

During the Training.

At KNIPPING, more and more machines and automation systems are being used, consisting of mechanical and electronic components. Mechatronics Technicians are trained to independently repair, maintain, and optimize these mechanical and electrical systems. In case of a malfunction, you will use diagnostic methods to identify the source of the problem, determine whether it’s a software or hardware issue, and whether it involves a mechanical or electrical fault. You will then repair the damaged parts, replace defective components, or change wear parts.

Mechatronics Technicians are skilled in both electrical and metal work. During the training, you will learn the skills for metal processing and electrical engineering, as well as the basics of hydraulics, pneumatics, control technology, and the measurement, testing, and programming of components.

All you need is technical understanding, a passion for math and technical subjects, and a good general school diploma—then you’re ready to get started! The vocational school will teach you the material in defined learning fields, focusing on practical applications. The combination of theory and practice forms a solid foundation for your future career.

My name is Robin, and I am training as a Mechatronics Technician at KNIPPING. I am currently in my first year of training.

So far, I have completed the basic training in the metal area in our workshop and am currently in machine maintenance, where I am learning a lot about electronics, such as the functions of various devices and machines. I have also had the opportunity to participate in assembling smaller testing machines.

What I really enjoy about the apprenticeship at KNIPPING are the various activities organized for the trainees, such as go-karting and the introductory weekend with the new trainees.

I chose KNIPPING for my apprenticeship because I had already heard a lot of positive things about the company and was convinced during my first visit.

In August 2017, I started my apprenticeship at KNIPPING. Since I have always had an interest in technology, I decided to pursue this profession, as it combines both electrical engineering and metalworking. In the first few months, I learned how to reconfigure, maintain, and fix minor issues with complex machines. I was also shown how different types of plastics can be processed. Additionally, I built simple electro-pneumatic circuits and gained my first insights into programming. Metalworking was taught both within the company and through external courses. Weekly vocational school lessons then reinforced this knowledge in theory.

At first, I couldn’t imagine fully understanding how the various machines worked. However, this concern quickly disappeared, as all questions and concerns could be easily clarified through the very supportive contact with my trainer and colleagues. I began to understand the individual work processes and quickly learned how to navigate the company, which allowed me to take on more responsible tasks after just a few months.

Thanks to the excellent working atmosphere, I am happy to be doing my apprenticeship as a Mechatronics Technician at KNIPPING.
